Nested multi-echo EPI Acquisition Technique for Oxygen Extraction Mapping

چکیده
H. Schröder, A. Bongers, L. R. Schad Department of Medical Physics in Radiology, Deutsches Krebsforschungszentrum, Heidelberg, Germany Introduction Following a model of tissue structure, proposed by Yablonskiy [1], oxygen extraction fraction from blood (OEF) can be calculated by measuring blood volume fraction (λ) and reversible relaxation rate (R2). In this work, a new nested multi-echo EPI acquisition technique is proposed to map these parameters. This approach is promising due to the superior SNR per time interval of EPI compared to other techniques. A phantom study shows that a significant reduction of measurement time can be achieved.

Effect of Phase-Encoding Reduction on Geometric Distortion and BOLD Signal Changes in fMRI
Introduction Echo-planar imaging (EPI) is a group of fast data acquisition methods commonly used in fMRI studies. It acquires multiple image lines in k-space after a single excitation, which leads to a very short scan time. A well-known problem with EPI is that it is more sensitive to distortions due to the used encoding scheme. Source of distortion is inhomogeneity in the static B0 field that ...
متن کاملPerfusion-based functional magnetic resonance imaging with single-shot RARE and GRASE acquisitions.
For perfusion-based functional magnetic resonance imaging, the previously introduced flow-sensitive alternating inversion recovery (FAIR) technique is combined with single-shot RARE (rapid acquisition with relaxation enhancement) and GRASE (gradient and spin echo) imaging sequences. The advantages of these sequences compared to commonly used echo-planar imaging (EPI) are an increased signal-to-...
متن کاملEvaluation of Sensory Pathways in Spinal Cord by Comparison of fMRI Methodologies
Introduction: Today, clinicians and neuroscientists need to have a comprehensive survey of neurological pathologies and injuries. For the First-time, SEEP contrast and Spin-Echo pulse sequences was used for functional imaging of the Lumbar spinal cord. This method used by several research groups for Spinal cord mapping, but other researchers tried to improve BOLD fMRI to Spina...
متن کاملReversed EPI Data Acquisition for Improved fMRI in areas of Large Magnetic Field Susceptibility
J. Zhuo, V. A. Stenger, F. E. Boada University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA, United States Synopsis We demonstrate the use of a reversed (outside in) echo planar imaging (EPI) k-space trajectory for the reduction of susceptibility artifacts in BOLD fMRI. Our results indicate that the proposed technique has artifact reduction properties similar to those of reversed spiral imaging and that it ca...
متن کاملBoosting BOLD fMRI by K-Space Density Weighted Echo Planar Imaging
Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) has become a powerful and influential method to non-invasively study neuronal brain activity. For this purpose, the blood oxygenation level-dependent (BOLD) effect is most widely used. T2* weighted echo planar imaging (EPI) is BOLD sensitive and the prevailing fMRI acquisition technique. Here, we present an alternative to its standard Cartesian recor...
